K. Fatih Yavuz is from Trabzon-Çaykara. He completed his medical education at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine (2002), and his psychiatry residency at Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital (2010). In 2013, he became chief assistant of psychiatry, associate professor of psychiatry in 2018, and professor of psychiatry in 2023. He is currently a faculty member in the Psychology Department at Istanbul Medipol University.
He has been closely interested in the theoretical aspects of psychology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy since his faculty years. During the early years of his psychiatry training, he worked on Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy approaches, and in 2011, he was certified as a cognitive therapist by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (USA). In 2017, he was also certified as a cognitive-behavioral therapist by EABCT. During the same period, Dr. Yavuz received training in Systemic and Structural Family Therapy theories. While working on emotional schemas, meta-cognitions, and trans-diagnostic processes, he became interested in new-generation Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies, especially Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), since 2007. In Turkey, Dr. Yavuz and his colleagues played a pioneering role in the initial development and subsequent spread of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Contextual Behavioral Sciences.
Dr. Yavuz conducts research, publications, and presentations on psychiatry, psychopathology, cognition-language-behavior relations, behavioral science, and philosophy, He also mentors young scientists and continues his work as a therapist, educator, and supervisor using the ACT approach. He is married and a father of two children.
