In the first part of our Nephrology Summit at Istanbul Medipol University, we examined the multifaceted nature of chronic kidney disease in four separate sessions, thoroughly exploring current and clinically critical topics in nephrology. • Prof. Dr. Şehmus Özmen shed light on the pathophysiology of cardiorenal syndrome, heart failure management in CKD, and cardiac risk assessment, presenting the kidney-heart relationship within a broad framework. • Dr. Metin Ergül, Assistant Professor, offered a detailed approach to the question “Who should undergo peritoneal dialysis?” based on clinical criteria, indications, and patient selection. • Specialist Dr. Akın Torun emphasized the importance of cardiovascular management by discussing common cardiac complications in CKD, interpreting ECG–ECHO findings, and explaining the risks of sudden cardiac death. • Prof. Dr. Aydın Ünal provided an overview of renal transplantation, sharing the fundamental stages of the transplantation process and current application principles. In the panel sessions, with the contributions of our dietitian, psychologist, and physical therapist instructors, we addressed the clinical, psychological, and physical needs of patients from a holistic perspective. In the first section, Dietitian Melisa Çise Gökkaya evaluated the critical role of medical nutrition therapy in kidney diseases, accompanied by clinical applications and case examples.In another section, Psychologist Erhan Candan presented a perspective on the psychological burden created by the disease process in individuals, coping mechanisms, and patient-family communication. In the final session, Physical Therapist Sultan Büşra Kavak shared problems reflected in the pelvic floor due to chronic renal failure and physical therapy approaches.
