September 21, World Alzheimer's day

Dementia is not a normal part of aging. Recognition of the warning signs of the disease facilitates early diagnosis.

 Early signs of dementia include:

  • Forgetting about recent events or conversations
  • Inability to remember the names of places or objects
  • Difficulties in finding words
  • Misplacing items
  • Asking questions repetitively or talking about the same things
  • Finding it hard to make decisions
  • Changes in day to day functioning (at home or work)
  • Being unable to use technological tools such as washing machine/dishwasher/phone, etc.
  • Not being able to cook as before / changes in the taste of food etc.
  • Difficulty in learning something new
  • Becoming hesitant in trying new things
  • Changes in personality or behavior
  • Mood changes (being more anxious or agitated etc.)

If any of these signs are evident in you or your relative, different from the past, you can get support from a specialist physician (neurology or psychiatry).
